These are general trends—be sure to check the local forecast before your trip for the most accurate info.

VISA

NoteIt’s each traveler’s responsibility to check visa and passport rules and make sure they follow them. Your passport must be valid for at least 6 months after the end of your planned stay in Mexico.

Mexico has a visa-free stay of up to 180 days for many nationalities. Please check the following link to see the list of countries exempt from visa:
https://www.inm.gob.mx/gobmx/word/index.php/paises-no-requieren-visa-para-mexico/

If your country is NOT on the list in above link you will need a visa and must contact the Mexican embassy or consulate in your country.

Non-US citizens travelling through the USA to Mexico may need a US visa and/or ESTA.

The tourist card (FMM) to enter Mexico is now replaced by a stamp in your passport at all major ports of entry to Mexico including Mexico City and Cancun airports. It is not necessary to fill in an online FMM form before you travel to Mexico just as you most likely won't receive an immigration card on your flight. Instead the immigration officer checking your passport may ask some questions about your stay and place the needed stamp in your passport.
Note: the immigration officer may ask to see documents like return ticket and tour confirmation, so keep this close at hand, either printed or on your smartphone.

Visa rules can change, so please check with your local embassy before you travel. Visa processing can take weeks.

Albatros Adventure Marathons is not responsible for travelers who are denied entry at a border or for the denial of visa prior to departure.

Utility Services

Telephone
The international country code for Mexico is +52. Please check with your mobile provider for specific options and fees. It is possible to purchase SIM cards with roaming internet anywhere in Mexico.

Internet
WiFi spots are widely available across Mexico, and you'll also find them even in some (semi) rural areas. Some require you to create an account or service, but many remain open to the public at no charge.

Electricity
Mexico uses power plug sockets type A and B, a two-narrow pronged plug mainly used in North/Central America, China and Japan.

The standard voltage is 127V and the frequency of 60Hz (similar to US, Canada, and most South American countries). If the standard voltage in your country is in the range between 220- 240V (in the UK, Europe, Asia, Africa and Australia), you'll need a voltage converter in Mexico. These can be found online, and please note that plug adapters only convert plug types, not voltages.

Food and Water

Water
As a precaution, you should not drink tap water in Mexico, even if it's purified at the source. Most resorts and hotels provide bottled water or large jugs of purified water for you to refill your bottle.

Dietary preferences and health requirements
We understand that allergies and special diets are a common concern among our guests. We do our very best to accommodate any diet for medical, allergy or religious needs. However, we cannot guarantee that all dining establishments can fulfil special requests. Guests with special dietary requirements should inform their server upon arrival at the location.

If you require a special diet during your travel, please inform us no later than 30 days before your tour begins. This can be done by adding in the "Special diet request" field in the booking form.

Currency & Gratuities

Mexico's currency is the Mexican Peso (MXN). The US Dollar, however, is widely accepted across Mexico especially in the more touristic places. Note that Mexico also uses the $-sign for pesos. If the price is stated in US Dollars it will typically be written as US$.

Tipping is very important. It is acceptable to tip in either Dollars or Pesos, though Pesos are more practical for the person on the receiving end. If using Dollars, do not use coins as they cannot be exchanged into Pesos. The recommended standard tip is 15 - 20%.

Packing Tips

Mexico in February is dry and warm, with temperatures hovering between 20 - 35°C

Pack light, comfortable clothing, sunglasses and sunscreen for those hot sunny days. Though an extra sweater is always useful, as it can get chilly quite rapidly when the sun goes down.

The water temperature is pleasant, so a swimsuit is a must when you want a cooling dip in the afternoon.

Time zones

Mexico has 4 time zones; Pacific, Mountain, Central and Eastern Time Zones.
The majority of the country including Mexico City and Palenque lie within the Central Time Zone (CST) also known as UTC-6.
The state of Quintana Roo, which includes CancĂşn, and the Riviera Maya with Playa del Carmen, Akumal, Tulum etc. lie in the Eastern Time Zone (EST) also know as UTC-5.
